Lagos is a city full of comedy that you can never experience
in another city. The comedy is woven into everyday life and city’s daily
scenes. Starting from the transport hustles to the street vendors, Agbero and
bus conductors shouting destination names like “oshod – oshodi, Anthony – Maryland, Ketu – Ojota Mile 12, Obalende - CMS” each with his own distinctive
funny tune, spectacular street dance performance and lots more.
Walking on the streets of Lagos alone was one thing that
kept my mind racing, remembering the escapades, the foul smell of dry gin which
emitted from the mouth of motorcycle riders popularly known as the “okada riders.” They would all meet at
a makeshift kiosk at early hours in the morning talking about their
experiences, laugh at each other, speaking mainly in Yoruba. I admired their
carefreeness.
The hooligans in disguise of the NURTW are not left behind
too, they make threat to remove wipers and side mirrors of bus conductors and
drivers over petty money exchanging vulgar words leading to exchange of punches
if not quelled immediately. If you manage to find yourself sitting in the
yellow with two black stripes buses popularly known as DANFO, you’d understand what I mean better.
Growing up till my present age, I’ve visited quite a number
of cities in Nigeria but trust me, the most interesting night life stills balls
down to Lagos. Many shows to attend and parties to groove in and if grooving
and partying is not your thing you could just savour the taste of chilled drink
in a local bar or in a classic wine lounge. There is something for everyone in Lagos
night life, it’s never a dull moment.
The Lagos daily scenes is part of
the reasons Lagosians are happy people.
It takes a person with good morals to overcome in the city
of Lagos.
